2015 50 Mile Ride for Rwanda – Caspers Loop

Route Comments   18 comments   Return To Route Overview

Congo Kid04/14/18SS - Ride 1 of 2 today. Nice warm day with breeze. Got a late start. Minimal bikers out today as Counting Coup got postponed to today. Did see a large group training for the Rwanda Ride. Saw 4 groups of horse riders, totaling 13 horses in Caspers.
Congo Kid03/31/18SS - good ride with Animal Jim today. Cleaned every hill today including to the 1st gate, up East Ridge, up Star Rise and the last hill by the picnic benches. Animal Jim wasn't feeling too good so stopped a few times to let him catch up. Saw a good sized rattler at top of East Ridge. Awesome weather and great ride.
Mike.the.Spike02/13/16Great weather today!
Mike.the.Spike01/16/16Group ride today. One person crashed and got a bloody knee but turned out fine thank goodness. Another rider got a flat and then skewer froz open so rode back slowly. Saw a dark colored bobcat dash across the trail. Then we hit a mud pit and 10 lbs of mud caked to our bikes everywhere. What a great ride!
Mike.the.Spike12/28/15Great post Christmas ride!
Mike.the.Spike12/20/15Saturday's ride. Beat the rain easily.
Mike.the.Spike12/06/15Group ride today, chilly at start but warmed up nicely toward the end of the ride. Pretty empty out there today, sand was packed down nicely!
Mike.the.Spike11/14/15Added about 3.5 miles to this loop. Nice cool weather and needed only 1 bottle of water.
Mike.the.Spike11/07/15Fantastic ride! Did not see another human being on the trails today, what a peaceful ride. I enjoyed listening to "The Great One" Mark Levin DESTROY the corrupt mainstream media over the false reporting on Presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson who has saved and improved so many children's lives. Such a superior human being compared to all the "do nothing, create nothing" and lying Liberal media buffoons.
Congo Kid04/18/15Good ride with JP. Saw the Rwanda Ride trail maintenance guys out there doing great work on Star Rise (a couple of bike swallower ruts there) and at the end of East Ridge and another spot. Great job guys! Got the honors of being the first over the newly smoothed areas. JP wanted some more miles in so we did the inner Caspers loop again as extra credit. A grim reminder of our sport: just past the first gate on the Dove Canyon waterfall side, a girl fell on the steep incline. Was on a body board with paramedics when I went by. Helicopter landed nearby and airlifted her to the hospital. I saw the group she had been riding with back at my truck and she broke her shoulder, might have had a slight concussion but no appearance of spinal or neck injury. Great news. Finished with 28.17 total miles today. JP was running of of gas as he'd been in Kenya for 2 weeks so off the bike for a bit. He'll be OK next week for the 50. He's a stud.
Mike.the.Spike02/01/15Great Saturday ride, still trying to get over this nasty cold, makes you tired when you climb.
Mike.the.Spike01/18/15Nice riding weather, a little rain damage here and there but not too bad.
ADanFool01/01/14Good starting ride for 2014. Felt fast and had a bit left in the tank. Under 2 hours for this section during PRwanda would be tough, although it's made easier by the fact that the park blew out the singletrack after the drop down Oso. Now it's all crappy rough park road all the way back to the right turn to Starr Rise.
Congo Kid03/24/13Rode with Snowman today. He wanted to see the back 25 of the Rwanda 50. I'd only been riding once in the past 2-3 weeks or so and felt it. Tough slog back from Caspers. No mechanicals, no crashes. Good times.
Fast Turtle04/21/12Rode with Brandon, Dave and James. First time with this group. The temps were cool. Watch out for deep ruts from the rains. I found one and had to crash into the side of the hill. I am glad I did this route for a pre-ride for Rwanda. Nice to meet everyone and look forward to riding again. Also did some search party back tracking. Dave took a wrong turn.
TBlazen04/21/12Fun ride with Paul, Dave and Brandon... Next time Kato...Great group of riders to enjoy a beautiful day riding on the edge of the fog at times with a bonus couple of Deer... Glad your OK Turtle!
One Flew OTB02/26/12Good training route. Easy access from Dove Canyon Drive.
One Flew OTB02/26/12Solo ride to check the new Caspers section of the 50 Mile Ride. Should be able to use this to calculate options when re-plotting the new route. Ran into Lonnie and his Sunday group in Caspers. Also met Patrick at the bottom of Eastridge, training for the 50 Mile Ride.
