Charouleau Gap (shar-lou) is a 4x4 route "maintained" (not) by the "Rough Riders" of Tucson....and it is 'rough.' IT IS NOT A FIRE ROAD BY ANY MEANS. It might as well be single track because there are only so many lines to take. It's a great training route...1800 ft climb to the Gap w/ hardpack, sand, ROCKS, rivlets, and SLICKROCK sections...coming down is more fun than going up of course, and there are a few hike-a-bike sections unless you have sick technical skills and super sticky tires...

08/09/07 this is not a fireroad by any means...it's a 4x4 route...it might as well be single track because there are only so many lines to take...there is no way any fire truck or fire "jeep" of any sort would make it up this route...
