A not so bad climb up the smooth, decomposed granite Indian Truck Trail (2622 feet in 7.4 miles) followed by a bit steeper, looser climb along Main Divide to the top of Upper Holy Jim (1141 feet in 3.0 miles). Then the fun begins with 5 miles of downhill, the first 4 being some of the sweetest singletrack in the Santa Ana's (the absolute best singletrack on the east side). The last 1 mile of Coldwater Trail does not follow the original trail and is crazy steep (1380 feet of DH) and rutted, so make sure you have the energy to finish this ride safely.
Post Your Mountain Bike Ride -- 3 Ways to Post Your Activity --
06/06/15 Last time I rode Coldwater was 3 years ago. I forgot all about how nice the first 2/3 of it was and I forgot how tough it was after that.
On the last 1/3 of it there are some descents of 50% grade at least. At the very end there is a 15 ft vertical drop.
I had the same inconveniences as last time to get out of the gravel mine. (at the bottom- after Coldwater)
I had to squeeze through an 8 inch gap created when I forced open the existing gate.
I had to remove the pedals and rotate the handle bar 90 degrees.
