This route packs a significant amount of climbing and descending in a short distance. The initial three and a half mile fire road ascent is quite steep at times, but is a small price to pay for the Deer Canyon singletrack descent. A brief stint up Deer Canyon fire road conveniently sets you up for an excellent final descent down the daunting Rattlesnake singletrack. Mach One and El Moro Canyon fire roads provide for a highspeed journey home. Note: The legality of Deer Canyon's singletrack has been in question for some time but Park Rangers have verified that it is simply unmarked because it is located between the two parks, Laguna Coast Wilderness & El Moro Backcountry.

07/01/10 First time in Elmo, heavy marine layer left me wet. Aggressive rock gardens, fire roads and climbs...it was a masochist's playground. Met some nice people along the way too.
05/31/09 Didn't feel it today. Went OTB and landed in a bush only 2 minutes into the ride. Started at Ridge Park. Just took it easy the rest of the ride.
