This loop is comprised of both the lower and middle Sam Merrill Trail Singletracks with a fireroad climb portion in between. The ride has some incredible views of the LA basin as well as some great scenery along the way (including the ruins of an old resort on Echo Mountain and train). Expect plenty of switchbacks both on the way up and down and some technical, loose, rocky, exposed sections on Upper Merrill. This is a great ride and should be placed on everyones "must do" list. CAUTION: Some very dangerous exposed sections.

Great ride with Cycleproject today but was VERY cold on the middle Merrill section so we turned back rather than finish complete Merrill Trail. Several stops trying to find the route in the beginning then nipped by a hikers dog mid route. Very random. Easily could knock off 30-40 min from the trip.

Mt Lowe Rd is under fire closure, up Castle Canyon instead. This trail is in great shape. Can't say the same for Middle Merrill.

one of those days-perf weather-sweet trails,a little bit of everything,hard packed 2 loose stuff,fire road,sngle trck kinda like sj or hj/hrsthf trail,picked up an frankos map of the san gabes-an s- load of trails off the 210-over 3 hr bike ride due to sight seeing/explore-

1 Hour just up the Echo Mnt. Another hour up to Inspiration Point. Half of the Fireroad and Middle Merrill is Burnt, couple places washed out, very techni.. Had a backpack on, should get some extra points lol.

Did just the Lower Sam Merrill, but rode 10 miles just to get to it!

Did this ride today 11am-2pm (Weekday) with only 2 MTBers and a handfull of hikers. My first "real" ride, only started MTBing, had to get off my bike about 10 times, the switchbacks are insanely steep! I was poppin wheelies in my lowest gear! The views were outstanding, i slipped twice just trying to catch a glipse. Keep your eyes on trail, very fast going down. I wouldnt rate that as advanced because i did it :P

Did this loop and added sunset and el prieto jpl to round out the day. LOTS of snow from fire road to inspiration point. middle merrill was snowy upper 1/3 and outstanding bottom 2/3. up to 10 inches of snow in some places on road.
