Had some bonehead in a car decide to pass the full size truck in front of him and almost hit me head on while I was coming down. Sat | | | | | Big thanks to the Warriors Society for another good event. Felt good (besides the cramps) to do this one healthy again. Cramped early but still managed to finish on the tail end of my estimated goal. I loved the bear bell on the descents - people could hear you coming and were courteous. Rode with Tom most of the way from the top of Blackstar until the first turn in the dirt heading up Maple Springs. Hiked the first half of WHT with Scribs. I could smell B.E.'s burgers before I got to the top of WHT, but had to pass. Dave Turner was checking out my old LiteSpeed Niota and then spent a lot of time talking bikes with us as well. He was riding a new carbon Turner (Czar?). Super nice guy. Best part of the day was having my wife and son at the finish this year. Good times! Other Comments | | |

The rain last night left us with mud, snow, and some fun conditions today as well as perfect riding weather, making this one a true epic. Jesse had a mechanical, probably costing him his second UQ win, but he still fought his way back into second, which is crazy considering how much time he lost. But, DW had a mechanical that cost him even more time. I spent most of the day going back and forth with Brian E. So much so that we decided to finish down Bell together to the finish. Really cool since we spend so much time riding together on the Saturday rides. Tom and Matt finished strong. Tom and Carl dropped us going up ITT. The "shirts or skirts" moment came at the top of ITT, with the Dude and Frank dropping Holy Jim. Tom, Carl, and I made a left. They dropped me on the Main Divide heading to Bell. Finally got a second wind on Bell for a good finish. Tom rode real strong today. Carl rode to and from the ride from home in Dana Point. He also cleaned "can't see bottom" on his old hardtail. Stopped by Cismontane for a little while after the ride but I was pooped so left early. Good times! | | |

Although it was cold at four corners and on the way down. Descending with drizzle limiting visibility was interesting, and slow. I turned off my helmet light which helped a little. Sat | | | | | Love days like this. We woke up unsure we could do a long ride because of the weather. The plan was to go to UHJ and back, but the exact route wasn't set. We all changed the route along the way. I decided to go back up UHJ and everyone followed, Tom decided on hitting Santiago Peak on our way back, and Ben was committed to hitting Modjeska peak to complete tagging both peaks. It's always great to finish a ride with a great technical descent. B&G is a little tough to follow in a couple spots and we had to backtrack after dropping a little ways to get back. Good times! Thanks guys! Also, nice seeing TRB, Murmur, MTB Fiend, and dandrews today as well. | | |

We really enjoyed this area and, although we were ready to head home after 9 days of riding, can't wait to get back out here. Awesome trip! Very grateful Tom invited me on the 5 day tour with Western Spirit - meeting up with Eric and Jay on Gooseberry Mesa really was the icing on the cake to make this an epic trip. | | |

This was fun when we were doing it but after getting a taste of Slickrock area, and later in the week Gooseberry Mesa, this was OK. However, the fact that we were driven down here to ride after getting rained out in Fruita was a big plus and showed Western Spirits commitment to making sure we had a good time. Tue | | | | | Day 4: The riding along the Western Rim has incredible views! We stopped for lunch above a scenic gorge. The Western Rim Trail twisted through the area with amazing views on every turn. However, after lunch we rode through rain for quite a ways. A little flash flooding and nasty bentonite mud cut the ride short. After everyone piled into the van muddy and cold, it was off to warm showers and a nice dinner at the Hot Tomato in Fruita. So, decided to at least make a run for finishing CC, but still had no intention on finishing VQ. At the bottom of Holy Jim a DNF wasn't on my mind. It was tough, but so stoked to have finished. Wed | | | | | Epic day with OTB_Again. This was the start and end of the ride. Chilly going up Trabuco. Lots of frost and leaves covering the trail in spots. Then it was over to Pinos and San Juan. The finish was classic. We were pretty sure it was going to get dark on us but we had some emergency lights if we needed them. Chased the sun down Bell before for seeing it dip behind Catalina. Trail was in good shape after the recent rain. Tom rode up to meet us then joined us for the climb up San Juan. Tom's seat broke on the way up.
