The trail is pretty loose and there is some sand in spots that I have not seen before. Gotta watch the ruts as well. Still, I always love this ride.	909

After about 2 miles climbing it started to rain. Put on my rain jacket and made it up to Cocktail. Fingers got very cold coming back down. There were a couple of groups still heading up as I headed down including a solo rider back down in the parking lot getting ready to go. Lower portion of trail was getting very slick from the rain. Didn't look like the traction would be all that great for anyone climbing.	961

Definitely some minor trail damage and it looks like there are some areas that might give way still. As previously mentioned, the technical rock section before the tight switchback just before Cocktail is chewed up pretty good. No longer cleanable for me. Saw Uphill Rider as I was climbing and met onei and team nuke up at Cocktail. Nice meeting you Dave & Tim. Fun, fast ride back down. Got up into a cloud while climbing and it drizzled a bit but not to bad. Saw about 10 other riders out there today. I think a lot of them were shuttlers. Ran over a small garter snake on the way up by mistake. I think he was ok. Put on some dry clothes at Cocktail for the ride back down. Pretty nice views with all the clouds and there was no wind today, very calm out there.	925

Saw 1 other rider starting to come up when I was nearing the bottom. Forgot the Garmin today.

When I got to the parking lot I was surprised to see 2 other cars. While climbing saw Eric P. from RnR and he was with a guy I have met out there before, Adam. Not to bad until about a mile before Cocktail. Then it was like a winter storm - high winds and driving rain. Started to get cold at that point. San Juan is very ridable even in weather like this. Left a little blood on one of the upper switchbacks coming back down. Thanks John at R&R for fixing my bike so quickly! Rear hub fixed & rear wheel trued.

Kind of glad I didn't. Big lunch didn't help either. Was not feeling it at all coming down. One pretty good slide out, left a little skin up there. Saw Wayne coming down as I was climbing and then came around a corner and was completely startled by a guy on his horse. Amazing 2008 on the bike for me personally. Got chilly coming back down. 2009 should be interesting. Happy New Year everyone.

Met 2 guys in the parking lot, one of whom I met at Old Camp 2 weeks ago. Rode with them the whole ride. Thanks James and Ryan! A couple of puddles and a few ruts but overall good conditions. Bike is not that dirty.
