Had the day off and wanted to get a ride in before the heavy rain hits. Some drizzle out there but plenty of ride time with no rain at all. Good to see a few familiar faces out there today as well.

Needed this one to start getting the bike legs back. Pretty painful but San Juan Trail is the best, especially after recent rains. Everyone else thought so as well. Nice to see a few other familiar faces out there as well. Rode with Ben, Matt & Mark.

Nice morning ride with Ben - slow climbing up. Only a few riders climbing up as we came back down. Had a nice talk with Dave the ranger in the parking lot before the ride as he gave us parking tickets. Not to worried about that though.

Good ride to sweat out the beer from yesterday at the Vista Strawberry Festival. Nice morning to be on San Juan. Rode with Greg, Ben and Dave. I turned around at Cocktail Rock and they continued on. The flies at Cocktail Rock were pretty bad today.

Had the day off from work for Columbus Day so I took a co-worker to San Juan for his first ride there. A bigger ride than he is used to but he made it to Cocktail Rock and back and enjoyed it even though he left a little DNA out there. Pretty quiet out there which was nice. FYI - They are still ticketing cars in the parking area.  Other Comments884

Saturday Morning Crew ride - original plan was for Laguna but it was raining down there and none of us wanted to deal with it. We decided on San Juan. Dry up to Cocktail Rock but started drizzling for the ride back down. Still a fun ride back down. 959

Columbus Day solo ride. Did this mid-afternoon and thought the heat might be pretty bad but there was cloud cover and every now and then a little breeze. Actually had a few rain drops. Lots of gnats at Cocktail Rock. Lots of new ruts especially in the lower switchbacks. Had the trail completely to myself. Good to get out and hit San Juan.  Other Comments913

Good ride with Greg and Matt. I need to start working a few weekday rides back into my schedule. My legs are not where they should be. Couple groups of shuttlers but we were early enough to beat them to Cocktail Rock for the most part and a fair amount of riders coming up as we came back down. 955

Good call for San Juan this morning. Not crowded and just a few sprinkles near Cocktail Rock. Rode with Greg and Ben. Greg's maiden voyage on his new Yeti. Good looking bike. Saw Brian E., Jeff J.,Phishin Paul and some riders we rode Push-A-Kona with. Rear tire wasn't holding air so I put a tube in about half way up. Nice to be done early on a Saturday. 973

Had the afternoon to myself and decided to head down to San Juan. Sunday afternoons are pretty quiet there. Only had 3 riders coming down on the climb up and one rider heading up as I was descending. The trail is pretty loose and there is some sand in spots that I have not seen before. Gotta watch the ruts as well. Still, I always love this ride. 909

Got out there around noon for a solo ride. Not too busy at that time. Chased another rider up to Cocktail. He set a good pace and the climb felt pretty good. Not wet out there at all. A bit humid. Good seeing Brian E. down in the parking lot getting ready to start his ride when I finished. 951

Great day to hit SJ. Trail is loose in many spots which makes climbing a bit harder. Only other riders I saw were 2 shuttlers coming down before I got to Cocktail Rock. Good seeing Mark & Mark Jr. down in the parking lot. Talked to a rider back at my car who was getting ready to ride. Nice guy who did the Leadville 100. 932

Another great day on San Juan. Wish I could have gone further. Felt real good out there today. Met a rider from San Diego at Cocktail named Woody. Nice guy. Got passed by Adam G. on the way down. He is one fast dude. Thought I saw Zungu's car in the parking lot but never saw him. It was still there when I got back. 961125/150

Wanted to get out of the house a little earlier but needed to do some maintenance on the bike first. After about 2 miles climbing it started to rain. Put on my rain jacket and made it up to Cocktail. Fingers got very cold coming back down. There were a couple of groups still heading up as I headed down including a solo rider back down in the parking lot getting ready to go. Lower portion of trail was getting very slick from the rain. Didn't look like the traction would be all that great for anyone climbing. 961

Wanted to see how San Juan held up before we get more rain. Definitely some minor trail damage and it looks like there are some areas that might give way still. As previously mentioned, the technical rock section before the tight switchback just before Cocktail is chewed up pretty good. No longer cleanable for me. Saw Uphill Rider as I was climbing and met onei and team nuke up at Cocktail. Nice meeting you Dave & Tim. Fun, fast ride back down. Saw Ian back down in the parking lot getting ready to do a night ride out there. Quite a few riders were getting ready to do the same thing.  Other Comments967137/167

The dude is back in CA. Good ride w Brian. Got up into a cloud while climbing and it drizzled a bit but not to bad. Saw about 10 other riders out there today. I think a lot of them were shuttlers. Ran over a small garter snake on the way up by mistake. I think he was ok. Put on some dry clothes at Cocktail for the ride back down. Pretty nice views with all the clouds and there was no wind today, very calm out there. 925

Started at 4:15pm today after dropping off some hazardous waste at the dump off of La Pata. Fairly warm climbing but not unbearable. Perfect coming down as the sun set behind Catalina. Was almost dark when I got back to the car. Saw 1 car in the parking lot but it was gone when I got back and I never saw anyone else the entire ride. Nice having SJ all to yourself!  Other Comments

Had to head down to San Juan today to work on some stuff so I brought the bike with me and got this in afterwards. Nice & peaceful out there this afternoon. Saw a total of 3 other riders. One coming down and 2 heading up. There was a car crash down by the freeway in the Shell gas station entrance on the way home. Bummer!  Other Comments924116/156

Was itching to hit San Juan but should have left earlier. Got very hot climbing & my legs were definitely not feeling it today. Stopped a couple of times to take a short rest. Saw a total of 5 riders coming down as I climbed. One had a big bandage on his elbow. Talked to a couple of hikers in the parking lot getting ready for their first hike on SJ. Saw them again on the way down. They went up about 2 miles & were heading back down. 905123/160

Nice easy pace witn OTB_Again. Perfect day out there on San Juan. Had the trail to ourselves except for a rider named Ira who we met at Coctail Rocks. He started at Blue Jay and was doing the lollipop loop. Interesting attire on him. Thanks for the company Eric!  Other Comments899115/147

Rode to Cocktail Rocks w/ OTB_Again & Hippydude. Had to bail out there for an appt. Nice day on San Juan, a little breezy but once again great views. Talked to a rider named Joe at Cocktail. Chased 2 other riders going up but then they pulled off to the side. Saw 1 other rider starting to come up when I was nearing the bottom. Forgot the Garmin today.

Decided to go out and play in the rain today. When I got to the parking lot I was surprised to see 2 other cars. While climbing saw Eric P. from RnR and he was with a guy I have met out there before, Adam. Not to bad until about a mile before Cocktail. Then it was like a winter storm - high winds and driving rain. Started to get cold at that point. San Juan is very ridable even in weather like this. Got back to car just before dark. There was an overturned truck on Ortega. Hope they are ok.  Other Comments887117/147

Left a little blood on one of the upper switchbacks coming back down. Thanks John at R&R for fixing my bike so quickly! Rear hub fixed & rear wheel trued.

Was going to do Old San Juan loop to end the year but got a late start. Kind of glad I didn't. Big lunch didn't help either. Was not feeling it at all coming down. One pretty good slide out, left a little skin up there. Saw Wayne coming down as I was climbing and then came around a corner and was completely startled by a guy on his horse. Amazing 2008 on the bike for me personally. Got chilly coming back down. 2009 should be interesting. Happy New Year everyone.

Went w/ the group doing Old San Juan Trail but bailed at Cocktail Rock because of time constraints. Good seeing everyone and met Burgemeester and Boersun at Cocktail Rock. Nicholas, I want to see your S. Africa pictures. Did a mild OTB on the way down trying to avoid an uphill rider(Jeff) - pretty funny. ScottV joined me for the ride down. Good meeting you Scott.
