Loop starts and ends in Julian. Mostly fireroads with some pavement. Beautiful scenery, and lots of climbing. Note: the 3 Canyons section will be ridden clockwise, going north on Mason Valley, then down Rodriguez and then up Oriflamme, back to Sunrise Highway at Fages.
Whew. Happy it's over. Learned a lot. No mechnicals or cramps, but my legs were definitely sore at various points. I underestimated the one big climb of the day and that cost me. Lots of pavement and some tough terrain for a few of the climbs. Overall pretty fast course though.
This was a freaking long ride. 1 pinch flat, lost water bottles right before hardest climb of the ride in 85 degree canyon, bunny hopped a snake only to run one over a few min later, & only cramped a little. I was the last place finisher of those who did the whole route. The most important thing I leared from this ride is that 85 miles is a really, really long way to pedal a bicycle..
