Charouleau Gap (shar-lou) is a 4x4 route "maintained" (not) by the "Rough Riders" of Tucson....and it is 'rough.' IT IS NOT A FIRE ROAD BY ANY MEANS. It might as well be single track because there are only so many lines to take. It's a great training route...1800 ft climb to the Gap w/ hardpack, sand, ROCKS, rivlets, and SLICKROCK sections...coming down is more fun than going up of course, and there are a few hike-a-bike sections unless you have sick technical skills and super sticky tires...

To Post an activity, GeoLadders supports 'Uploading' directly from a Garmin device, BUT, USING THE IE BROWSWER ONLY (Microsoft Interent Explorer). Plug in your Garmin device to your computer and click the 'Upload from GPS' button, just above this text. Or, if uploading a new route that does not yet exist in GeoLadders, click the red 'Upload Activity' button, top upper right corner of the page.

Upload any GPX file (e.g. a recent activity) here using the 'Post GPX to this route' button, on the left. One way to get a gpx file of your activity is to upload from Garmin Connect or Strava. For example, upload your activity to Strava then download ACTIVITY as GPX from Strava to your computer. Open the activity in Strava, click the 'Action' icon on left (wrench), select 'Download GPX' (saves to 'Downloads' on your computer). Go to, open the existing route you want to post to, select 'Post GPX to this route' (on left), then click the 'Browse' button (middle of page), find the GPX in your 'Downloads' directory. Double click, save. That's it. Your route appears on and in your dashboard.

Download this route to follow it on the GPS during an activity, or to race a Virtual Partner (yourself or others) on the GPS. Plug in your Garmin device to your computer and click the 'Download from GPS' button, just above this text. (NOTE: ONLY USE MICRSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER TO DOWNLOAD, WILL NOT CURRENTLY DOWNLOAD THRU FIREFOX, CHROME, OR SAFARI).

Click the 'Download GPX file' link, on the left to download this GeoLadders route (as a GPX FILE) to your computer. Then to get the file on your GARMIN device, login to Garmin Connect at STEP 1). Select ACTIVITIES (far left menu, 5th option) STEP 2). Upper right, click IMPORT, then click BROWSE, middle of page. STEP 3). Double click the activity, then click IMPORT DATA button. STEP 4). The activity opens (in Garmin Connect), then upper right, of the 5 icons, click the GEAR icon 5. then SEND TO DEVICE (Note: you can rename the acivity before sending to your device). The activity will show in 'Courses' on your Garmin device with the default name or the name you gave it. 6. You'll need to unplug your device to view courses on your device. That's it.

it's been a decade since I last rode this...I used to ride it all the time when I went the U of has changed quite a bit...
this is not a fireroad by any's a 4x4 might as well be single track because there are only so many lines to take...there is no way any fire truck or fire "jeep" of any sort would make it up this route...
