New Revision, added Preview Pics, directions and NAVfile, (updated 9/7/09).

Nice loop! Somewhat technical downhill with great variety. The first half is a wide open sunny fireroad climb. The second half is narrow rocky singletrack with lot of switchbacks twisting through the forest. Plenty of welcome shade and picturesque views.

gaucho10/03/091st time @ El Prieto. 1 of 2 laps. Nice day to ride, cool temps in morning. It's a shame what the Station fire did to the mountains and trails. Technically, the trails are closed as a result of the fire. Rock/sand slides have taken out some parts of the singletrack. Lots of work will be needed to get the trails back into shape after the winter rains and expected landslides.
gaucho10/03/09Station fire has devastated the vegetation and caused slides to cover some areas of the singletrack downhill.
gaucho10/03/09Lap 2 of 2. Much faster than the first lap as we now knew the trail a bit. Great ride with Phil. Too bad the Station fire did what it did. Maybe Phil will post some pics of the burned out trails.
kennethmicu09/12/09Just rode this trail on sept 9, 2009, a few days after the big station fire. Brown mountain in completeley burned and El prieto in 90% burned. It looks like a dessert wasteland with absolutely no vegetation anywhere. The trails are still there and somewhat rideable but with alot of erosion slides covering the trails. Saw alot of dead rabbits.
Laggdawg08/24/09Gross, Dang, Marylee
Weekend Warrior08/21/09Added a couple extra miles by staying to the left at the bottom of Prieto. The road just felt wrong so I turned around and there was trhe trail.
Gnarmin08/19/09lap 2
Gnarmin08/14/09Lungs felt the smoke from Santa Barbara Fire. Car next to me had broken glass when I got back to JPL.

Gnarmin07/13/09Recovery ride.
Mike.the.Spike05/23/09Nice fire road climb to get you warmed up and breaking a sweat. Then a GREAT descent through some rough/technical singletrack with babyheads, then throw in a a few creek crossings. You need to do two laps here because the fun ends too quickly!
billstoudt05/02/09got in an early morning ride started sprinkling on the way back.
agitate189003/15/09loop #2,long drive, figured we better do it twice.trails in good shape.
borre1312/31/08Pretty lonely up there today...got stopped by an older man that asked me how come all bikers always cut through and destroy the trails...he must've talked for about 15-20 minutes...
Wout11/09/08Fun ride. Fire road ride up was a good warm up, but the real fun starts on the trail.
Wout11/09/08Fire road is a good warm-up, but the fun starts on the single track part. Too bad the track is all downhill. Some technical climbing would have been fun.
davidB.09/04/08first ride in 2 weeks or so. Heart was racing a mile into it. El Prieto much dustier than usual. A couple places not in the good shape they are in the winter. EP so much fun on a rigid

RollnStone06/29/08Was getting hot at 9:00am. Tried to ride this yesterday but my crank self-destructed before I even hit the trail head. The new crank feels very good.

project_d10/17/07Somehow, I sucked on the uphill. Still, though, the downhill was tacky!!!
project_d10/07/07Did this as well as Sunset. Getting a bit loose, but still fun as heck!
cashtar10/04/07Up and down road - no singletrack.
DJ Skywise08/24/072nd time there and we found the trail. Awesome ride, some scary switchbacks on the cliffs. nice scenery, shade and creek crossing.
jamiek07/29/07Note to self...when riding solo, always make sure you have the correct size tube. Flated out, walked/carried bike last 2 miles. Good times.
ricros1107/21/07Didn't care much for the fireroad climb, but the ride down made up for it. Singletrack was techincal but fun!
jkidder06/20/07Over the bars twice.. Ouch...
mtbchick06/17/07test riding the my Cannondale G1gi singlespeed bike(1 gear girl)!!! fun- but my Edge pooped out and lost the signal.

mtbchick05/14/07yeehah i love this ride! still didn't clear the "dislocated finger" switchbacks- everything else latida!
Rdog05/03/07Fun, the trail gets small in some parts
singletrack05/01/07broken chain
jkidder04/19/07This was my first time riding a trail this tough. I am new to mountain biking but was motivated by a friend who had to babysit the whole ride. I pulled a endo once and bailed down a small embankment into something sharp and some black mud. This is a sweet ride but probally not for beginers. Though I am glad to see what I have to look forward to. The climb was serious tough for me.
mtbchick04/17/07I have for some reason 7.74 miles on this route not sure how i managed to add an extra mile??? on the big bike, my Prophet, and i even dislocated a finger. first crash ever on this trail! also my edge shows me at 8.4 mph. so i don't know why.
xtrsmith04/07/07
dubjay03/25/07Fun little ride here. Fireroad climb gives you a nice view of smoggy Pasadena. The singletrack has some nice switchbacks and stream crossings.
