Here it is! The second ever Alaska ride posted to Geoladders. First with pictures! Alyeska is a beautiful resort located in the Girdwood Valley, about 40 miles south of Anchorage. Views of the Turnagain Arm are visible from most spots on the mountain. The official bike trails are fun. Christmas In July is a nice singletrack sweeper with banked turns and Blueberry Pancake is a sweet technical singleytack with tons of boardwalk and cool featuries. This route is me exploring the entire area, hitting the downhill runs multiple times. Due to heavy cloud coverage and dense tree canopy, the GPS signal was lost many times. While the trails are fun, the real draw is the scenery here.
UPLOAD - DIRECT FROM YOUR GARMIN DEVICE To Post an activity, GeoLadders supports 'Uploading' directly from a Garmin device, BUT, USING THE IE BROWSWER ONLY (Microsoft Interent Explorer). 08/09/09 Finally got a chance to do some mountain biking here in Alaska! Overall I had a blast. Rental bike was a Scott Scale 50, which was ok, but too small. Largest frame the shop had was a Medium and I am 6'2". I wouldn't call Alyeska a mountain bike destination, but I had a blast riding here. 2 trips down Christmas In July and 3 runs down Blueberry Pancake. Avoid the Tanaka Road climb, unless you are insane. Can't wait to load some more routes up here.
