That's How I Roll07/06/101ST Route
That's How I Roll07/03/101ST Route forgot to start my garmin
BetF07/03/10Guessing on the ride time... Terrific spin with George and Jose. Some hike-a-bike near the top. Fatigue didn't help! Lots of ped traffic, especially near the bottom, but it was probably extra-bad today due to the long weekend. Will be back someday.
That's How I Roll03/15/10Hardest 67 point I earned going up MT Zion trail was 80% hike-a Bike, the big plus was with all the rain the views were awesome
Dannyboy02/26/10Fun ride, did a little extra by going up LWC and riding down UWC.. Suck It.
Dannyboy02/26/10Rode all the way up, after coming down Mt.Zion I did some extra credit and rode up LWC then rode Upper Winter Creek down.
singletrack02/06/10In the rain. Checked out Sturtevant Falls. Stopped at the pack station for a beer afterward.
davidB.12/21/09So all these people ride up Santa Anita to the trailhead? ;) the route without the pavement climb is here http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=20673
Ladera Dave11/21/09Great ride with Bob, Big Al, Lone Ranger, Sparky and How is your daddy from STR. Way to many hikers today.
Blueman11/02/09Fun ride with MTBPEJ and TDW.
Ladera Dave06/14/09Nice to meet some STR peps today, Jason, Jimmy, Steve, Rubon, Richard and Paul good strong training for our cannel Plunge ride
Bruin04/03/09Heavy mist but great ride
Hermit11/30/08Wow...What an amazing place to ride! Scenic trails. Just don't look down while riding! Lots of climbing on this loop. Definitely want to come back soon. Good idea, Troy! Thanks for driving, Mark!
Hippydude11/30/08Amazing, just when you thought it could not get any better, then it does! Thanks Troy,Mark,Matt and andrew for the good times!
ThinkFast11/30/08Incredible day with Mark, Matt, Brian and Andrew. Beautiful singletrack and some Steep climbs. We added checking out the lookout, Sturtevant Camp and the Sturtevant Falls. We had the camp caretaker show us around inside a few of the buildings. Pics and Ride Report here: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trail-talk/27586-chantry-flats-mt-zion-sturtevant-camp-winter-creek.html
Mark W.11/30/08Do not look down!
Mark W.11/30/08What a day! Definitely the best scenery in so cal. Lots of fun with Troy, Brian, Matt, Andrew. The camps are really cool.
Winger11/30/08EX8. Rode with Mark, Matt, Troy, Brian. Great scenery. A bit frustrating with all the climbing & hike a bike switchbacks at the beginning. The downhill made it all worthwhile. Stopped by the Sturtevant Methodist camp and the guy running it gave it a Deliverance feel. Hiked to the peak, and also hiked to some falls.
mpmffitz11/19/08Rode this trail with SIMONMTB from STR. The trail is very exposed. The dh singletrack is phenomanal.
Ladera Dave08/23/08Great ride with Dave & Dave from str group
camdjkim06/13/08The climb toward Mt Zion is a killer. If anybody can ride it you the man. I walked about 60% of it.
camdjkim06/13/08Very technical and difficult climb on Mt Zion. Difficult to get speed on the decent. Sharp turns and if you miss the turn you are pretty much dead. Overall it was challenging and had a good time coming down. If there is a next time for me I continue the climb to Mt Zion Peak. Should have done it but was getting late.
rleveque04/12/08Not much to this ride after you take out the six miles of pavement to and from the trailhead. In fact, the pavement's not even necessary anymore now that the road is open to cars again. Beautiful area, though, and a worthwhile destination if you add on the Winter Creek loop or some other extra miles. Trails are more rugged than most, and the canyons are alive with poison oak.
JoeTruth03/13/08Lots of Poison Oak up there. Wear arm and leg guards to prevent skin contact.
Ladera Dave03/02/08Great ride with Franks L.A. Chapter, I taco wheel on the ride.
xhuskr12/22/07varied ride a bit...started at the parking lot, but added in some extra miles somewhere. Tough/grinding kind of ride...but a good way to spend the afternoon....now if I' can only get my brakes dialed in to stop locking up...it'd be even better
mt dew10/13/07great technical training ride. lots of chances to pay big time if you make a mistake. rain last night added some extra obstacles as well.
Erik MM08/24/07WOW...plenty of chances to DIE here! CLIFFS (i.e. 'exposure'- a word I hate)...YOU WILL GET LOST W/out GARMIN cause the directions SUCK! At least 4 critcal turns/junctions were missing (@ ~8, 10, and 12 mi)...AWESOME but potentially fatal...clean/smooth/PURE 1 track until the Winter-something area where I saw a team of 10 mules carrying crap to a cabin...LOTS of PIOSON OAK...
goldrunner06/23/07Happy Birthday Bob! Thanks for the grub Jane. Phil, Ken, Mark, nice ridin with you..
Ladera Dave06/23/07Great ride with Gold Runner & Bob for his 57 birthday. Good food & friends.
trickster06/04/07Beautiful scenery and great single track make up for hike up Mt. Zion. Definite MUST DO!
jasonmason05/06/07This really wouldn't have been as rough if we hadn't missed the turnoff to start the downhill and instead kept climbing up to the pass...still fun to do a new trail, and we eventually backtracked and enjoyed the way down
singletrack10/09/06Mt. Zion Trail is overgrown and eroded- trailwork is necessary.

thoranz05/05/06upper winter creek appears to be scheduled for much needed maintenance. the climb to mt zion is very overgrown - lower part is mostly unrideable. the ride from the top down is in excellent condition and makes up for it. left from home adding a 10 mile r/t road ride. solo ride.
Cranx07/23/05Hmm, where to begin. Let's start with the good: Once you hit the trailhead, the climb is a lot of fun. Great singletrack under a nice canopy most of the way and the views are amazing. Onto the...shall we say...not so good. Mt. Zion Summit climb is about 90% unrideable (overgrown, narrow, steep and loose). Waaaay too much pavement. Tons of poison oak. Lots of fresh bear and mtn. lion scat. AGAIN, ZION IS UNRIDEABLE! 2 mile portage no fun.
Cycling Escapes06/25/05Actually rode up to Mt wilson too, down to Redbox, back up to Wilson and back to Chantry Flats - 6,300' elevation gain
CRZY BMW05/29/05Hard Climb but a killer downhill. Road was closed to auto traffic!!! Took a nice swim at the waterfall at the end.
Terry Best05/13/05Excellent reconaissance ride with Doug and Rich. First 3.2 miles is a great workout to start the singletrack adventure. Worth the trip!
