| One Piece | 09/05/08 8:00 AM | Anyone riding the AMTRAK century this weekend? I'll be there riding an old (20+ yrs) blue and white Trek. I'll be wearing a white long sleeve Disney runners jersey and black mtb shorts with a blue camel back. If you see me say hello. Always good to meet geo peps. |
| spicolli1976 | 09/03/08 12:07 AM | Thanks for the input Staff. I really appreciate it. |
| Staff | 09/02/08 9:53 PM | spicolli1976: personal routes have a fixed formula used to calculate points; this is intended to be at least the minimum value the route is worth. Official routes can get a bump in this point value to keep them in reasonable line with the point value of other official routes and the actual difficulty of the route.
In addition, a significant portion of the point value is based on the total ascent, which in turn is based on altitude measurements from the GPS unit; inconsistency in these measurements can cause some additional variation in point totals for personal routes. |
| jason41 | 09/02/08 9:00 PM | Anyone have any suggestions on lights for road biking at night? Back and front of course, and possibly clothing? Please send a message, thanks everyone! |
| surferguy24th | 09/02/08 8:47 PM | Hey guys I am going to ride in Los Gatos on Sat evening and Sun. Morning. Does anyone had personal routes that are somewhat easy to follow without a GPS or any advice on what I should ride. I am getting married up here in June so i am making the trip to go riding up here. Also, if anyone is from this area and wants to ride with me please let me know. |
| spicolli1976 | 09/02/08 3:17 PM | I have a question about personal routes that I post and not getting the points they deserve. For instance, yesterday, I rode The San Juan lollipop loop with Viejo Tie and the upper portion of Chiquito (an additional 5 or 6 miles). I added it as a new personal route and it said the route was worth 63'ish points when the Lollipop loop ALONE is worth 80something points. Why is this? Thanks for your help guys. |
| mpmffitz | 09/02/08 2:15 PM | Local trails in Wildomar, behind Farm, old proving grounds for Metal Mulisha dudes, plent of decompsed granite, ups and downs and tech. |
| Keith B | 09/02/08 12:50 PM | Staff: On the GPS playback the time shown is the ride time when really it ought to be the total time. Can we have this changed to make it easier to pick people to virtually race? |
| jr. munoz | 08/30/08 10:39 AM | thanks troy ! great story about project rwanda and also why they call muzungu muzungu ! its in the sept issue of outside mag. and it even mentions our event ! |
| TrailMonkey | 08/29/08 9:23 AM | Found cyc computer on the Tijeras Creek trail just before the Chiquita Ridge climb. PM me with make & model or ODO reading |

| Royster71 | 08/22/08 12:49 PM | Ahhhhh poor gate ..................NOT!! |
| One Flew OTB | 08/22/08 9:45 AM | FYI - Rode Chiquita Ridge last night and the gate on the north end was open. Looks like someone cut the new chain link fence that had been installed on the south gate, so the ridge is all open and rideable. (at least as of last night 8/21/08). Didn't see any barbed wire. |
| ThinkFast | 08/22/08 9:35 AM | A freind of mine has started a a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization called Forward Motion Foundation. -

*Forward Motion Foundation is dedicated to giving recovering alcoholics and drug addicts the opportunity to experience and learn about the natural beauty of San Diego from the seat of a road or mountain bike.*
Check out the website, sign up for the newsletter or just send a possitive note of support. Tony is a great guy. |
| MTB Fiend | 08/21/08 7:59 PM | What is our world coming to? Both of the last 2 posts are heartbreaking! Chiquita Ridge is an awesome fireroad - best sunset ride yet. And to spray graffiti on trails is beyond criminal. So pointless and sad. |
| Quack Attack | 08/21/08 3:07 PM | Watch out for locked gates and barbed wire for those who frequent Chiquita Ridge. Looks like someone complained about all of the dreaded bikers riding the fireroads and sweet singletrack. Bummer. |
| Hannibal | 08/21/08 12:05 AM | Rode Aliso today and could not believe my eyes when I saw that someone had spray painted graffiti on the rocks on Rockit. How stupid can some people be? |
| stevo carrillo | 08/20/08 10:10 AM | Heading up to the Kern River just north of Lake Isabella ( Kern County ). Anyone know of routes that have been mapped out and posted. |
| S.L.O. Phil | 08/18/08 5:15 PM | Anybody have a route that's just up Canyon Acres down Telonics ? |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 08/18/08 4:34 PM | america smokes way to much weed put at least its better than cigarettes |
| Keith B | 08/18/08 1:05 PM | It cracks me up that so many DH-ers smoke pot. It almost like they realise that they know the thing to do is put your fears aside and ride through the obstacles but they cant face up to it so turn to some weed. Cheating or losers?! |
| S.L.O. Phil | 08/18/08 11:15 AM | Some A-holes decided white spray paint would be a good addition to some rocks in Aliso, and No, I won't "smoke pot." Some people.... I hope to God they aren't mountain bikers who will keep coming back. |
| xhuskr | 08/17/08 12:54 PM | found a light at Whiting on Wed....send message to describe where you may have lost it and brand/description... |
| Keith B | 08/17/08 10:31 AM | I found a nice knife on HJ yesterday. PM me with a good description if its yours. |
| One Piece | 08/15/08 12:48 PM | I'll try to get down to ashland, sounds like there alot of good stuff there. thanks |
| muzungu | 08/14/08 2:01 PM | Not exactly in Grants Pass, but in the region. http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=16345 |
| One Piece | 08/14/08 8:05 AM | Does anyone has any experience riding in So. Oregon; particularly in the Grants Pass area. I'm there next week on vacation and looking for trails. Thanks for any input. |
| spicolli1976 | 08/13/08 8:17 PM | Just to clarify the Motorway question, the route that I took was up Blackstar to Beeks then to Pleasant Peak then down Smashface and then hiked out and rode back to the Blackstar parking lot. Sorry if this caused problems, I didnt mean for this to happen. I sent my Garmin back for warranty, otherwise I would have posted my exact route. I wanted to get points for my ride, and thought this was the closest route to the one I rode. Sorry guys. |
| Goldrunner | 08/11/08 10:00 PM | Thanks! Got it working. How is that old Bumb doing anyway? |
| jr. munoz | 08/11/08 9:02 PM | ben press the two left side and lap button at the same time and hold a couple of seconds ! then try again ! unemployed floyd said to say hi to you ! |
| Goldrunner | 08/11/08 8:26 PM | Does anyone know how to reset a Garmin 305, mine will not turn on? Thanks..... |
| ericfoltz | 08/11/08 6:54 PM | Motorway will be closed until November. |
| McGrunt | 08/11/08 6:52 PM | Is the Motorway Open? |
| ThinkFast | 08/10/08 4:46 PM | Not sure how the Geo guys did Jr. Hopefully someone will post something soon. |
| ericfoltz | 08/10/08 4:32 PM | Wiens is quickly becoming (even more of) a legend and Leadville is getting some great press for mountain biking. |
| jr. munoz | 08/10/08 4:26 PM | hey troy how did koke and the other geo guys do ? web for the event ? |
| ThinkFast | 08/10/08 4:21 PM | Congrats to Manny Prado...3rd place at Leadville! Behind Dave Wiens and some some roadie name Lance. - http://velonews.com/article/81522/wiens-and-armstrong-shatter-leadville-record |
| evilbawb | 08/09/08 7:56 PM | at least he dated it right,mr.distant ride.. |
| Goldrunner | 08/09/08 6:06 PM | Motorway open?? Those people on the Blue team, I'll tell you.. |
| Royster71 | 08/07/08 11:12 AM | You Know it !!! |
| Terry Best | 08/07/08 11:03 AM | just an FYI: They opened Whiting Ranch back up yesterday (Wednesday AUG 6th) at 6pm.. So we're all clear. |
| S.L.O. Phil | 08/07/08 9:20 AM | Ya! I'm number 1 (weekly) right now! Let me be excited, it'll be short lived. |
| Staff | 08/06/08 5:36 PM | Added Washington location |
| Keith B | 08/06/08 4:40 PM | Can they cut off his arms and cut out his tongue to stop him doing it again? |
| ericfoltz | 08/06/08 3:47 PM | They're pretty sure the guy was making it up. He has a history of tall tales and is well known by the sheriff's dept. |
| Keith B | 08/06/08 3:45 PM | That guy needs more than a gentle slap with a paw. If they shoot the lion and or cubs he ought to jump off a bridge or something. |
| TioTony | 08/06/08 3:44 PM | Staff - Can you please add Washington State to the route locations? Thanks |
| One Piece | 08/06/08 1:16 PM | Really... you see a mt lion and her cubs, and you decide to pet the cubs because they look cute... really?! There's a Darwin award waiting with this door knob's name on it. That momma cat's actions where pretty mild compared to what I would expect to happen; it would be absurd to put the animal down for this behavoir. |
| RollnStone | 08/06/08 12:57 PM | Here is a link to the Mountain Lion story. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-lion7-2008aug07,0,4834569.story |
| Goldrunner | 08/06/08 12:53 PM | Word has it that some Brainiac decided to pet some Mountain Lion cubs at Whiting today? I wonder what happened after that? Dah!! Hope it is not closed to long and they dont kill the Lion. I think they should euthanize or relocate the person that approached the cubs....Dumb &%&^ Sorry tom, I heard this on the radio before I saw your post.... |
| ZULU | 08/05/08 1:19 PM | I am glad to see Whiting open even with all the sand. |
| Keith B | 08/03/08 2:37 PM | I was surprised at how much of Whiting was left intact on my visit yesterday. In severeal spots its obvious where the soft silty sand has been washed down but there are large patches of silt in other random places - rangers on quad bikes causing it? |
| xhuskr | 07/28/08 9:15 PM | Here are some photos I took of Whiting conditions on Saturday. Go to
http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trail-talk/22147-whiting-trail-conditions.html
and take a look....I agree Roy...a challenge, tearful, but hope of what can be while not forgetting what once was. |
| Royster71 | 07/28/08 6:37 PM | I am staring to look at the sand pits at Whiting in a different light. Now it is driving me to see how many of them I can clean. There are some lines starting to develop and different ways about going through the different pits. I am just so happy that it is open! Now when I am going up Mustard I look off to the right and take in the beauty that is developing (tear). Even though there are areas we think to ourselves that could have been done better. I then think cool they made something else better. It will be interresting to see what happens when it gets wet in there cant wait. Hope things went well for you in Whiting today Terry. ----JUST THINKING OUT LOUD. |
| Staff | 07/28/08 7:47 AM | Games fixed. |
| jr. munoz | 07/27/08 10:44 PM | are we still going to get the points for the last games ? |
| RollnStone | 07/27/08 9:18 PM | As the Tour De France concluded, so did the Geoladder Games. I did like the part though where the guy tried to turn his road bike into a DH MTB. |
| surferguy24th | 07/27/08 9:05 PM | Ok maybe I didn't get the memo but why are the games not happening? Also great to see Mark and his son riding with Geoladders.com Jerseys at the race today. Look pretty professional. Represented well too. Mark got 1st. |
| xhuskr | 07/27/08 6:01 PM | Terry....could to Tuesday! send me a message or email (unless you lost it) and let me know...Kevin |
| Keith B | 07/27/08 4:06 PM | I'd join you Terry but 'the man' has me pushing pencils and keyboards until 5, doh! |
| Terry Best | 07/27/08 9:19 AM | Hey folks, I'm considering re-collecting Whiting Ranch - Cactus - Sage Scrub and also collecting Whiting Ranch - Sleepy Hollow on my scheduled 9am ride tomorrow (Monday) morning. If anybody is interested in learning how to do this or would like to join...please come along. Cheers - Terry |
| kevin a | 07/26/08 7:50 PM | Jerry - can you call OC Police and provide that information. They are just trying to piece together when she may have arrived. thanks |
| JERRY | 07/26/08 7:08 PM | |
| JERRY | 07/26/08 7:08 PM | |
| JERRY | 07/26/08 7:04 PM | San Juan is in the worst condition I've ever seen. The switchbacks are rutted out, the top half above cocktail is overgrown and beware of the road closures from 8:30pm to 4:30am. We shined our lights on the car briefly but didn't remember seeing anyone inside. If your night riding beware of plenty of spider webs, and large taranchula's. |
| JERRY | 07/26/08 6:37 PM | Kevin, I got chills reading this right now. I road San Juan that night and I think I saw the same car on the far left about 11:00pm. |
| Royster71 | 07/26/08 4:50 PM | Wow Kevin.... Did you come across that??? |
| kevin a | 07/26/08 3:07 PM | If anyone rode San Juan bottom half on Friday July 25th please call OC Police Department. It appears a woman committed suicide in the parking lot (discovered Saturday). She was in a green toyota camry lic 5BYN441 - parked to the very left when you enter the parking area. Police are trying to get a time reference for when she arrived - if you call reference DR # 08-141493 if you call the OC police dept -- |
| jr. munoz | 07/24/08 1:42 PM | ok thanks ! the last route I did was completed in a dif. order and so that makes perfect sense ! |
| Staff | 07/24/08 12:10 PM | Playback has problems finding the start point when you start "too far" from the beginning of the route. It doesn't check for lap buttons... it is entirely based on when you start the timer on your GPS. If that lookup fails, it tries to follow the route looking for a place to sync you up... not necessarily in a very intelligent way. |
| jr. munoz | 07/24/08 10:23 AM | what is the problem or the solution to when gps. playback cant find start point ! do you have to hit lap button only one time ? at beg. and at end right ? help the tech. challenged please (~: |
| ALXZNDR | 07/23/08 7:41 AM | Thunder Mountian, UT is an awesome ride... EXCEPT... when there's a thunderstorm!! It swooped in and hit us about mile 11 (15 mile ride), so there was no turning back. I know we left some tread signatures... My apologies to the Utah trail riders. I'll go back and do trail clean up for pennance.
There were at least 3 forms of mud, the red hoodoo version, a black type and then this grey stuff that was relentless. Our best mud tool— an old chop stick and a tofu skewer that I had in my pack.
Other than that... it was fantastic! Some of the best singletrack I've ridden! Definitely worth the long weekend trip to get there. |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 07/22/08 10:43 PM | Thats awsome what they have done its lookin good! |
| Royster71 | 07/22/08 9:15 PM | http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trail-talk/21825-trail-work-luge.html Something seems to be happening up there hope it opens soon. You Know IT!!!! Whiting to the Luge coming soon :) Thanks for the link Ben! Nice Video Garrett !! |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 07/22/08 11:44 AM | http://youtube.com/watch?v=iYooXpLwshA make sure you watch it in high quality it will look alot better |
| ALXZNDR | 07/19/08 6:27 PM | Gooseberry Mesa was very cool, figuratively speaking_ it was like 100 degrees up there! Hannibal... thanks for the tip... I think I will be going out to Thunder Mountain tomorrow.
FYI... Zion Cycles is the ticket for bike service here in Zion Canyon. |
| Hannibal | 07/18/08 12:45 PM | ALXZNDR - Casto Canyon and Thunder Mountain are two pending geoladders routes that are close to Gooseberry near Bryce Canyon. Go to routes and click on Utah from the Regions drop-down menu. |
| Royster71 | 07/18/08 11:32 AM | You sure you wanna go up there?? You sure your not going to miss your loop :) |
| ALXZNDR | 07/18/08 7:46 AM | I am off to Gooseberry Mesa today (finally out of Fullerton— YES!!). Question: Is it better to ride north rim to south or south to north? For those of you who helped me find some trails... once again, thanks for your help... Any other southern Utah trails I should check out (I have the JEM and Gooseberry on my list, but I am open to further suggestions! Has anyone heard of the little creek trail? |
| Pacman | 07/17/08 8:54 AM | Thanks, JC. At least I get 2 days of riding it. |
| JCampbell | 07/16/08 9:43 PM | Doug... go get your Nomad! Good Luck. |
| xhuskr | 07/16/08 4:01 PM | new Whiting routes? How 'bout Borrego-4 corners-Sleepy Hollow - up whiting Road and down sage scrub and out? recent personal route also added SH up and back...10.3 miles of fun.. |
| Staff | 07/16/08 9:42 AM | DaddyHC: fixed. |
| DaddyHC | 07/16/08 9:28 AM | Staff: I like the 'abbreviated' version of the Dashboard. One annoyance is that I can't look at all the rides if there are more than 25 rides on that route. There are 52 rides for IKPV2; when I select IKPV2 from the 'ride history' drop down menu, I get to see 25 rides; at the bottom of the page I get a message 'View all 52 rides for DaddyHC'; when I click on that I get all 1339 rides on all routes; when I select 'IKPV2' again on the 'ride history' drop down menu, I get a display of 25 rides, and the 'View all 52 rides for DaddyHC' message. Is there some way to see just the 52 rides? |
| Terry Best | 07/14/08 10:44 PM | Good idea about re-recording the Whiting-Cactus route, Garrett... There is also one more loop in there that we can add, Whiting - Sleepy Hollow :) Let me know if you have questions about making the route official...
-Terry |
| Goldrunner | 07/14/08 4:27 PM | Any I.E. Peps planning on doing any riding around Diamond Valley lake better get in before 12noon. They wont let you in after that because of health concerns. Like we dont bring water with us and there is not a million gallons or so of water there any way?? |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 07/12/08 11:15 PM | I think monday I will redo the whiting ranch cactus route since its changed so much. |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 07/12/08 10:00 PM | there alright I was just bored one day. hahah |
| Goldrunner | 07/12/08 8:12 PM | GG- Like the Flowbots??????? Or The Simpsons????? |
| GARRETT GARCIA | 07/12/08 5:14 PM | If you have road in whiting, you now no its way sandy. I was wondering if there is any thing we can do to fix that like get a group together with some shovels or something. |
| cdemeis | 07/12/08 3:11 PM | Whiting Ranch Trail Changes:
Santiago Ranch Road - Extended toward Sage Scrub / Cactus Hill - Ends at Santiago Ranch Road, not Sage Scrub/Vulture View / Sage Scrub - No longer meets with Concourse, runs between Sleepy Hollow and Vulture View / Sleepy Hollow - Now a multi use trail. Runs from Whiting Road to Santiago Ranch Road / Upper Pond - Closed for re-routing until further notice |
| cdemeis | 07/12/08 3:07 PM | Whiting Ranch Opening Day Update: Got there at 10:30 AM and it wasn't crowded at all. A few news vans were in the parking lot interviewing people and there were welcome tents at the entrance gate and at the top of four corners. Most trails are re-cut and graded. Borrego (One Way Trail) has A LOT of sand! Be prepared to get on and off your bike a few times. Cactus is completely different and you can now ride Sleepy Hollow. Live Oak survived the fires pretty well and is the most un-changed area of the park. Going to take some time and rain this winter for the trails to get back to normal again. Overall a great day! |

| xhuskr | 07/12/08 12:07 PM | Patkel..download the Mapsource software from Garmin then you can save the file as a .gpx and upload as a personal route. |
| ericfoltz | 07/12/08 11:28 AM | You need to convert the files in another program like Motion Based. |
| patkel | 07/12/08 11:02 AM | Cant get personal routes uploaded to GeoLadders from my Garmin training center software. I think the problem is Geoladders requires GPX format files while my training center is in tcx format. Any suggestions? |
| Pacman | 07/12/08 5:13 AM | One Piece - Call customer support and ask (demand) a warranty RMA. Keep it simple "It doesn't work." If you go via email they try to stick you with a $99 repair charge. |
| One Piece | 07/11/08 3:58 PM | I think this problem has been discussed before, but my 205 is shutting off when I hit bumpy patches. Does this mean it's cooked? I sent an email to Garmin support but what have others done about this problem? thanks |
